Free Online Transcript Editor: Clean Up and Export in Your Browser

Reading time: 4 minutesJune 13, 2026

AI transcription is fast, but the raw output almost always needs a little cleanup. A misheard word here, a speaker labelled "Speaker 00" there, or a transcript you want to turn into subtitles. That's why we built a free transcript editor that runs entirely in your browser. You can fix the text, rename speakers, and export to whatever format you need, with no account and without uploading your file anywhere. You can open the editor here.

Why you might want to edit a transcript

Automatic transcripts are accurate enough to use straight away, but a few things usually need a human pass:

  • Fixing misheard words, names, and technical terms

  • Replacing generic labels like "Speaker 00" with real names

  • Removing filler words and tidying up punctuation

  • Reformatting the text for a document, a blog post, or subtitles

If you want a deeper walkthrough of the editing process itself, see our guide on how to post-edit AI transcripts.

Everything happens in your browser

The editor is completely client-side. When you open a transcript, the file is read and edited on your own device, and it's never sent to our servers. That makes it a safe choice for sensitive interviews, medical or legal recordings, and anything covered by a confidentiality agreement. There's nothing to upload and nothing to delete afterwards.

What you can do

  • Edit the text of any line directly

  • Rename a speaker once and update every line at the same time

  • Add, delete, and reorder lines

  • Adjust the start and end timestamps

  • Export to six different formats in one click

Supported formats

You can import the CSV or Markdown transcript that we email you after every transcription. From there, export to any of these:

  • Plain text (.txt) for clean, readable text

  • Word (.docx) to open in Microsoft Word or Google Docs

  • Markdown (.md) for notes apps, wikis, and content management systems

  • CSV (.csv) for spreadsheets and data analysis

  • SubRip (.srt) for subtitles in video players and editors

  • WebVTT (.vtt) for subtitles on the web and HTML5 video

How to use the editor

  1. Transcribe an audio or video file, no account needed.

  2. Open the email we send you and download the CSV or Markdown attachment.

  3. Go to the transcript editor and drag the file in.

  4. Fix the text, rename the speakers, and tidy up the lines.

  5. Click the format you want, and your file downloads instantly.

Turn a transcript into subtitles

If you work with video, the editor doubles as a quick subtitle tool. Import your transcript, clean up the wording, and export to SRT or VTT. Both formats drop straight into video editors, YouTube, and HTML5 players, so you can caption interviews, lectures, and tutorials without separate subtitle software.

Frequently asked questions

Is the transcript editor really free?

Yes. There's no account, no login, and no limit on how many transcripts you edit and export.

Do you store my transcript?

What can I import?

The editor reads the CSV and Markdown transcripts that OneStepTranscribe emails you. Both keep speaker labels and timestamps intact.
